Central Islip, NY – The Long Island Ducks (14-7) dominated the Somerset Patriots (12-10) from start to finish to clinch the weekend series with a 15-3 win on Saturday night at Bethpage Ballpark. The Patriots have lost five of six games to the Ducks thus far in 2012.
The Ducks got on the board first as they scored three first inning runs. Left fielder James McOwen recorded an RBI single. Two additional runs scored on shortstop Dan DeGeorge’s throwing error to make the score 3-0.
In the ensuing half inning the Patriots would chip away plating two runs. Designated hitter Yusuf Carter hit an RBI single and center fielder Johnny Drennen had an RBI ground out to make the score 3-2.
In the bottom of the second inning right fielder Matt Esquivel laced a two RBI single to right field to give the Ducks a 5-2 advantage.
In the top of the third inning Patriots first baseman Freddy Sandoval blasted a solo home run (1) over the right center field wall to cut the deficit to 5-3.
The Ducks added two insurance runs in the seventh frame as third baseman Bryant Nelson collected an RBI on a groundout and center fielder Kraig Binick scored on a passed ball by relief pitcher Mike Solbach.
The Ducks sealed the deal with an eight run eighth inning in which they sent 11 men to the plate and gathered seven hits. First baseman Ray Navarrete capped the big inning with an opposite field three run home run (3).
