Lancaster, PA – The Lancaster Barnstormers (18-15) clinched this four game midweek series with a 5-4 win in seven innings over the Somerset Patriots (15-17) at Clipper Magazine Stadium in game one of this doubleheader. The Patriots have now lost a season-high four games in a row. Barnstormers catcher Emerson Frostad scored on a wild pitch from left handed relief pitcher Chase Wright in the final inning to notch the 5-4 victory.
In the top of the second inning Patriots designated hitter Lou Santangelo plated a run on an RBI fielder’s choice to put the Patriots on the board first as they led 1-0.
In the ensuing half inning Barnstormers right fielder Ryan Harvey clubbed his first home run (1) of the season to deep right center field as the two-run blast put the Barnstormers in front 2-1.
In the top of the fourth inning Santangelo registered another RBI fielder’s choice to tie the game at 2-2.
In the home half of the fourth frame, Harvey blooped an RBI double down the right field line to give the Barnstormers a 3-2 lead. The Barnstormers would add another run that inning on pitcher Justin Cassel’s throwing error as the lead grew 4-2.
In the top of the seventh inning the Patriots were down to their final out and final strike until Patriots third baseman Jeff Nettles hit a game tying two RBI single to left center field to dramatically tie the game at 4-4.
In the bottom of the seventh inning Frostad would score on a wild pitch from Wright as the Barnstormers would win 5-4 on a walk-off wild pitch.
