Sugar Land, TX – The Somerset Patriots (21-24) doubled up the Sugar Land Skeeters (18-26) 6-3 Monday night from Constellation Field. The Patriots trailed by two runs heading into the seventh inning and rallied in the final frames for their ninth come from behind win this season. The Patriots have won four of the first five games of this six game wrap around series between these Freedom Division foes.
In the top of the third inning right fielder Jonny Tucker hit a sacrifice fly to center field to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.
In the ensuing half inning the Skeeters responded with a run of their own. Shortstop Iggy Suarez homered (1) to left field to tie the game at 1-1.
In the bottom of the fourth inning third baseman Ofilio Castro poked an RBI single up the middle to give the Skeeters a 2-1 advantage.
The Skeeters added one more run in the home half of the fifth inning on a wild pitch by Derell McCall to score Suarez making the score 3-1 in favor of the Skeeters.
In the top of the seventh inning the Patriots would cut the two run deficit in half as second baseman Dan DeGeorge hit a sacrifice fly to make the score 3-2.
The Patriots would plate three runs in the eighth frame to take the lead. Tucker scored on a wild pitch thrown by reliever Michael Nix. Then with two outs and two strikes left fielder Aaron Mathews squeaked a two RBI single up the middle to put the Patriots ahead 5-3.
The Patriots would add an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning as third baseman Jeff Nettles laced a two out RBI single to center field to give the Patriots a comfortable 6-3 lead which they would not relinquish.
The 2012 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Thursday, June 14th when the Patriots return home to take on the York Revolution at TD Bank Ballpark at 7:05 pm.
