Waldorf, MD – The Somerset Patriots (33-35) defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (30-38) 4-1 Friday night from Regency Furniture Stadium. The Patriots led from start to finish. Doug Arguello was dazzling as he hurled seven strong innings while striking out eight batters in a winning effort.
In the top of the first inning third baseman Jeff Nettles collected a RBI on a groundout to put the Patriots on the scoreboard first as they led 1-0.
In the top of the third inning center fielder Jonny Tucker hit a RBI sacrifice fly to center field to expand the Patriots lead to 2-0.
In the bottom of the fourth inning center fielder Jeremy Owens hit an inside the park home run (11) down the right field line to cut the deficit in half making the score 2-1.
The Patriots responded in the ensuing half inning with a run of their own as Tucker smacked a RBI double to give the Patriots a 3-1 advantage.
First baseman Yusuf Carter slugged his second home run in as many days as his solo blast (7) over the left field wall made the score 4-1 in favor of Somerset.
Arguello earned his fourth win of the season while Nick Green suffered his sixth loss of the year. Josh Rupe notched his 13th save of the 2012 campaign as he threw a scoreless ninth.
