Central Islip, NY – The Somerset Patriots (2-3, 37-38) defeated the Long Island Ducks (2-3, 41-33) 8-3 Tuesday night from Bethpage Ballpark. The Patriots led start to finish as starter Derell McCall pitched six solid innings to earn his third win of the season in only his fifth start of the year.

In the top of the first inning the Patriots scored five runs sending eight batters to the plate. Catcher Jake Fox blasted a three run home run (2) to left field and shortstop Dan DeGeorge cranked a line drive two run home run to left field (2) to give the Patriots a comfortable 5-0 lead.

In the top of the second inning the Patriots added three more runs as designated hitter Freddie Bynum hit a two run triple and Fox collected another RBI on a sacrifice fly to make the score 8-0.

The Ducks scored a run on the bottom of the third as shortstop Dan Lyons would score on McCall’s fielding error.

The Ducks scratched across two runs in the home half of the fourth on center fielder Reid Gorecki’s two RBI single to make the score 8-3 which would be the final.

The 2012 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Monday, July 23rd when the Patriots return to TD Bank Ballpark to take on the Sugar Land Skeeters at 7:05 p.m. The game includes a special 14th Birthday Celebration for Sparkee the Mascot.
