Waldorf, MD – The Somerset Patriots (4-6, 39-41) salvaged the final game of the three game weekend series against the Southern Marlyand Blue Crabs (5-4, 35-44) with an 8-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at Regency Furniture Stadium. Patriots’ manager Sparky Lyle notched his 999th career win as a skipper of the Somerset Patriots.
In the top of the first inning Patriots third baseman Jeff Nettles blooped a RBI single to shallow left field to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.
The Patriots added another run in the top of the fourth as first baseman Jake Fox slugged a solo home run (4) to left center field to give the Patriots a 2-0 advantage.
In the top of the sixth inning Patriots designated hitter Jesse Hoorelbeke blasted a two run home run (13) to double up the Patriots lead and make the score 4-0.
In the top of the seventh inning the Patriots scored four runs as they sent eight men to the plate. Left fielder Freddie Bynum collected a RBI on an infield single, Nettles hit a two RBI single and Fox tallied another RBI on a fielder’s choice making the score 8-0.
The Blue Crabs scored in the bottom of the ninth inning as first baseman Sergio Pedroza hit an opposite field home run (2) to left field to make the score 8-1 which would be the final.
Derell McCall tossed a season high 6.1 innings of shutout baseball to earn his fourth win of the season. Deinys Suarez suffered his fifth loss of the season.
