August 29th Game Notes; Barnstormers @ Patriots

Bridgewater, NJ – Tonight the Somerset Patriots (22-25, 57-60) host the Lancaster Barnstormers (29-16, 74-41) in the third game of this four game midweek series featuring these Freedom Division Foes at TD Bank Ballpark. The Barnstormers won the opener Monday night by a score of 7-3. The Barnstormers won last night 11-4. Lancaster has smacked six home runs combined in this series. Lancaster won the Freedom Division first half and has the best overall record of the eight teams in the Atlantic League.

Southpaw Chase Wright makes his first start of the year as he replaces Sean Green in the rotation

Power Outage

The Patriots have not hit a home run in nine consecutive games which is their longest stretch without hitting a long ball this year. Somerset is last in the Atlantic League in HRs with 75 while Lancaster leads the Atlantic League in HRs with 129.

Four Hit Parade

Last night Jeff Nettles recorded four base hits. Only three other Patriots have had four hit games this year (Adam Donachie, Joe Holden and Jake Fox).

Sanchez Sizzling

Shortstop Yunesky Sanchez hit just .212 in the first half of the season but in the second half he has turned his season around. Since the All-Star break he’s hitting .319 with three home runs and 18 RBI. He had 11 RBI the entire first half. He has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games.

‘Storm Problems

The Patriots are just 3-12 against the Barnstormers in 2012 and have lost 11 of their last 12 against the Butch Hobson’s club.

Corey’s Clutch Against ‘Stormers

Corey Smith plays very well against the Lancaster Barnstormers. In five games this season Smith is 9-for-20 (.450) with 2 HRs and 6 RBI. Six of his nine hits have gone for extra bases.

Starting Pitching Matchup

Lefty Chase Wright toes the rubber for Somerset while righty hurler J.D. Durbin is on the hill for the Barnstormers. Wright is making his first start of the 2012 campaign. He’s replacing Sean Green in the rotation after Green retired last Friday to be closer to his family.

J.D. Durbin: 10-9, 4.85 ERA, 23 starts, 148.1 innings, 94 Ks, 62 BBs
