DSC_0212Bridgewater, NJ – The Five-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots have announced the re-signings of pitchers Paul Phillips and Brandon Braboy.

Phillips was 8-2 with a 3.10 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 72.2 innings pitched in 12 games started for the Patriots last season before signing to play in Taiwan.

Phillips has experience in the Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays organizations, including three seasons at Triple-A.

He spent time at the Double-A and Triple-A level in 2011 for Tampa Bay, appearing in 35 games in Montgomery. Phillips was 5-2 with a 3.98 ERA, seven saves, and 55 strikeouts in 61 innings pitched in 38 games for Montgomery in 2010.

Phillips has a minor league career record of 38-23 with a 3.74 ERA, 57 saves, and 468 strikeouts in 498.2 innings pitched in 312 games.

“We are happy to have Paul back with us. He did a great job in our rotation last year and gave us a chance to win every time he took the mound. Paul is a team guy who wants to win and is also very versatile. We look forward to him contributing in a big way,” said Brett Jodie, manager of the Somerset Patriots Baseball Club.

Braboy was 2-0 with a 2.28 ERA, three saves, and 31 strikeouts in 27.2 innings pitched in 22 games.

Braboy has three seasons of experience in the Yankees organization, where he has spent his entire career before joining the Patriots.

He has a minor league career 8-6 record, a 3.50 ERA, and 156 strikeouts in 185.1 innings pitched in 76 games.

“Brandon was a late season acquisition. He has a very live arm and also possesses good off speed pitches. Brandon wants the ball and to compete every night and we feel confident in him. He will be a huge part of our bullpen’s success,” Jodie said.
