Patriots Steam Blue Crabs 12-2

atkins throwingBridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 12-2 at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.

The Patriots jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Mike Wilson led off with a solo home run (1) and later drove in two more in the inning on a two run bases loaded single to book end the scoring.

Yunesky Sanchez drove his fourth home run in as many games over the right field wall to tack on two more runs for the Patriots in the bottom of the third. Here is the audio clip of how Sanchez’s line drive blast sounded courtesy of WCTC.

Southern Maryland got on the board in the top of the fourth on a solo home run by Cyle Hankerd (1) to make the score 9-1.

Somerset added to their lead in the fifth on an RBI triple by Jonny Tucker.

Tucker blasted his second triple of the game and Sanchez hit a sacrifice fly for the Patriots in the seventh for the 12-1 advantage.

The Blue Crabs scored their second run in the eighth after a walk forced home a base runner.

Patriots starter Mitch Atkins (1-0) got the win after allowing a run on four hits in five innings of work.  Tommy Mendoza (0-1) suffered the loss for Southern Maryland, allowing nine runs in three innings pitched.
