Central Islip, NY – The Long Island Ducks (3-9) edged the Somerset Patriots (8-3) 3-2 Wednesday night from Bethpage Ballpark. With the loss the Patriots snapped their five game winning streak.
Somerset plated a pair of runs in the top of the second as first baseman Adam Donachie hit a two RBI single through the left side to give the Patriots an early 2-0 lead.
The Ducks capitalized on two Patriots errors in the bottom of the third inning to scratch across a run. Center fielder Danny Perales knocked in a run via a sacrifice fly to right field cutting the deficit in half to 2-1.
Third baseman Bryant Nelson tied the game at 2-2 as he hit a line drive solo home run (2) to right field in the fourth frame.
Nelson broke the 2-2 tie as he spanked his second home run (3) of the game to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Ducks a 3-2 advantage which would be the final score.
Connor Graham (1-1) earned the win tossing a scoreless seventh inning. Brad Thompson (2-1) was the tough luck loser as he scattered just two hits through seven solid innings of work. Leo Rosales notched his first save of the year.
