Bridgewater, NJ – Tonight the Somerset Patriots (24-10) host the Lancaster Barnstormers (18-19) at TD Bank Ballpark for the first game of a three game midweek series featuring these Freedom Division foes. This past weekend the Barnstormers handed the Skeeters their first series loss of the year.

Starting Pitching Matchup

Righty Mitch Atkins (3-1, 3.96 ERA) toes the rubber for Somerset while fellow righty hurler Brian Grening (1-2, 2.36 ERA) will take the hill for the Barnstormers.

Freedom Division Update

The Sugar Land Skeeters (29-8) currently lead the Freedom Division by 3.5 games over the Patriots. Somerset has played three fewer games than Sugar Land.

After tallying zero homers through his first 23 games, Corey Smith now has five home runs over his last 11 games.

Eddy Martinez-Esteve leads the Atlantic League in batting average hitting at a tremendous .384 clip. He has a comfortable 27 point lead over the next best hitter in the league which is Steve Moss of Sugar Land. Martinez-Esteve has hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games and has 10 multi-hit games over his last 14 contests.

Better Than Average

The Patriots have four players in the top 15 in the Atlantic League in batting average: Martinez-Esteve (1st .384), Montanez (T-4th, .331), Smith (6th, .328), Fox (11th, .315)

RISP-ect

Luis Montanez and Jake Fox are tied for 2nd in the AL in RBI (31). Corey Smith has the 6th most RBI in the AL (26).

The Patriots are 21-5 when they score four or more runs. The Patriots are 3-5 when they score 3 or fewer runs.
