May 31st Game Notes; Patriots @ Skeeters

Sugar Land, TX – Tonight the Somerset Patriots (26-11) visit the Sugar Land Skeeters (31-9) for the first game a pivotal four game wrap around weekend series featuring these Freedom Division foes. Yesterday the Patriots won 9-1 over the Barnstormers to clinch the series. Jake Fox hit a home run and this is how it sounded and Corey Smith hit a home run and this is how it sounded. Audio is courtesy of WCTC.

Starting Pitching Matchup

Righty Brad Thompson (3-1, 3.55 ERA) toes the rubber for Somerset while fellow righty hurler Scott Elarton (3-3, 3.78 ERA) will take the hill for the Skeeters. Both are former Major Leaguers.

Freedom Division Update

The Sugar Land Skeeters (31-9) currently lead the Freedom Division by 3.5 games over the Patriots. Somerset has played three fewer games than Sugar Land. These two squads have played one series thus far and the Skeeters won two of three against the Patriots.

Eggy’s Sunny Side Up

Ahron Eggleston is the midst of an nine game hitting streak in which over that span he is hitting .486 (18-for-37).

The Patriots have the best team batting average (.309) in the Atlantic League while the Skeeters have the best team ERA (2.58) in the Atlantic League.

Jake Fox leads the Atlantic League with 13 home runs.

After tallying zero homers through his first 23 games, Corey Smith now has seven home runs over his last 14 games.

Eddy Martinez-Esteve leads the Atlantic League in batting average hitting at a tremendous .398 clip. He has a comfortable 51 point lead over the next best hitter in the league which is Steve Moss of Sugar Land. Martinez-Esteve has hit safely in 16 of his last 17 games and has 12 multi-hit games over his last 17 contests. He currently has a seven game hitting streak.

Better Than Average

The Patriots have four players in the top 15 in the Atlantic League in batting average: Martinez-Esteve (1st .398), Montanez (5th, .333), Smith (7th, .324), Fox (T-11th, .317)

The Patriots are 23-5 when they score four or more runs. The Patriots are 3-6 when they score 3 or fewer runs.
