Sugar Land Avoids Sweep With 6-3 Win

esteve swingingBridgewater, NJ- The Sugar Land Skeeters defeated the Somerset Patriots 6-3 before 5,897 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.

The Skeeters jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the second inning on a solo home run by Aaron Bates (3) and a two-run home run by Koby Clemens (9).

The Patriots got on the board in the third on an RBI base hit by Jonny Tucker to cut the lead to 3-1.

Sugar Land tacked on two more runs in the fifth on a solo homerun by Dominic Ramos (8) and an RBI double by Josh Pressley to make the score 5-1.

Somerset rallied to score two runs in the sixth on a solo homerun by Corey Smith (8) and an RBI single by James Skelton to cut the lead to 5-3.

An RBI base hit by Travis Scott in the eighth brought home a run for the Skeeters and increased their lead to 6-3.

Sugar Land starter Matt Wright (7-0) picked up the win after allowing three runs in 5.1 innings of work.  Patriots starter Josh Lowey (5-3) suffered the loss, surrendering five runs on six hits in five innings pitched.  Jason Bergmann came on to pitch the ninth and pick up his 14th save of the season.
