PATRIOTS DOUBLE UP BARNSTORMERS 12-6

Lancaster, PA – The Somerset Patriots (38-20) doubled up the Lancaster Barnstormers (30-29) 12-6 Thursday evening from Clipper Magazine Stadium in front of 3,575 fans. These two squads split the four game midweek series.

In the top of the first inning left fielder Aharon Eggleston spanked a line drive two run home run (6) to right field and second baseman Jeff Baisley tallied a soft RBI single to give the Patriots an early 3-0 lead.

Somerset added a run in the top of the second inning on a RBI single by third baseman Corey Smith to expand the lead to 4-0.

Lancaster plated three runs in the ensuing half inning to cut the deficit to 4-3. First baseman Daryle Ward hit a towering two run home run (8) to right field and an additional run scored on a throwing error by shortstop Bobby Stevens.

Baisley slugged a solo homer (3) in the top of the third inning to increase Somerset’s lead to 5-3.

Designated hitter Eddy Martinez-Esteve roped a two RBI double in the top of the fourth frame to up the score to 7-3 in favor of Somerset.

The Barnstormers cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the fourth inning as third baseman Kevin Howard and right fielder Matt Spencer each recorded RBI singles making the contest 7-5.

The Patriots added a run in the top of the seventh on a RBI single by Adam Donachie to expand their lead to 8-5.

Fox recorded his third hit of the evening on a RBI double to left-center field to balloon Somerset’s advantage to 9-5.

Ward poked a RBI single to center field in the bottom of the eighth to make the score 9-6.

Somerset scored three key insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning to make the contest 12-6 which would be the final as Fox drew a bases loaded walk and Smith smacked a two RBI double off the wall in right field.

Erik Arnesen (4-1) earned the win tossing seven innings allowing just four earned runs. Will Savage (5-6) suffered the loss giving up 12 hits and seven runs in four frames.

The 2013 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Monday, June 24th when the Patriots return home to take on the Camden Riversharks at 7:05 p.m. The game features Bark in the Park Night where all fans are allowed to bring their dog to the ballpark.
