SOMERSET SALVAGES SERIES WITH 11-7 WIN OVER YORK

York, PA – The Somerset Patriots (39-22) salvaged the series finale by defeating the York Revolution (33-29) 11-7 Sunday evening from Sovereign Bank Stadium. The Patriots notched their 16th come from behind victory of the season.

In the bottom of the second inning left fielder Cody Johnson crushed a two run home run (6) to right field that gave the Revolution an early 2-0 lead.

Somerset tied the contest at 2-2 in the fourth inning as first baseman Jake Fox hit a RBI sacrifice fly and third baseman Corey Smith pounded a solo home run (12) to left-center field.

Left fielder Aharon Eggletson gave the Patriots a 4-2 advantage in the top of the fifth inning as he poked a two RBI broken bat single up the middle to give Somerset their first lead of the night.

Third baseman Mark Teahen evened up the score at 4-4 in the ensuing half inning as he laced a two out game tying two RBI triple to right-center field.

The Patriots took a 7-4 lead in the top of the seventh inning that they would not relinquish. Second baseman Jeff Baisley roped a RBI double. Then designated hitter Eddy Martinez-Esteve sliced a RBI single through the right side and an additional run scored on a fielding error by the right fielder Eric Patterson.

York scratched across two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as third baseman Andy Marte drilled a two run home run (11) to left field to cut the deficit to 7-6.

In the top of the eighth inning Somerset plated a pair of runs that provided insurance as Martinez-Esteve grooved a two RBI double to expand Somerset’s lead to 9-6.

Catcher Adam Donachie smacked a two RBI single in the top of the ninth inning to increase the Patriots’ lead to 11-6.

Patterson hit a opposite field home run (11) in the home half of the ninth inning to make the score 11-7 which would be the final.

David Harden (8-2) earned his Atlantic League leading eighth win. Yunior Novoa (3-2) suffered the loss in relief.

The 2013 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue tomorrow night when the Patriots return home to take on the Camden Riversharks at 7:05 p.m. The game features Bark in the Park Night where all fans are allowed to bring their dog to the ballpark.
