Patriots Shut Out By Ducks 9-0

629aldridgeBridgewater, NJ- The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 9-0 in front 5,075 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday evening.

Josh Barfield got the Ducks on the board in the first inning after he drove an RBI single to centerfield for the 1-0 lead.

The Ducks added a second run in the third on an RBI base hit by Bill Hall to make the score 2-0.

Long Island continued to add to their lead in the fifth after Joash Brodin scored on a wild pitch and Hall came around to score on an error for the 4-0 advantage.

The Ducks rallied to plate four more runs in the top half of the seventh inning highlighted by an RBI double off the centerfield wall by Ramon Castro to give them an 8-0 lead.

Long Island plated their final run in the ninth on an RBI double by P.J. Phillips for the 9-0 final.

Ducks starter John Brownell (6-5) picked up the win after allowing three hits in six scoreless innings while striking out seven.  Patriots starter Graham Taylor (5-4) suffered the loss, surrendering four runs on seven hits in five innings pitched.

The 2013 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue at home on Sunday afternoon when the Patriots take on the Long Island Ducks at 1:05 pm.
