Central Islip, NY – The Long Island Ducks (1-0, 31-40) defeated the Somerset Patriots (0-1, 45-25) 4-3 Tuesday night in the series opener from Beth Page Ballpark in front of 6,532 fans. Center fielder Kraig Binick stroked a two out, two strike RBI single up the middle to propel the Ducks to victory in the bottom of the ninth inning in walk-off fashion.
In the bottom of the second inning third baseman Bryant Nelson slugged a two run home run (10) to right-center field and catcher Ramon Castro hit a RBI single that gave the Ducks an early 3-0 advantage.
Somerset plated a run in the top of the fourth inning on a Cory Aldridge RBI groundout to trim the deficit down to 3-1.
The Patriots evened the score at 3-3 in the top of the sixth inning as Nelson made a throwing error that led to a run and center fielder Jonny Tucker hit a RBI groundout.
Binick, who was just signed Tuesday morning from the Mexican League, played hero for the Ducks as his game winning RBI single in the home half of the ninth inning guided Long Island to victory.
Leo Rosales (2-2) earned the win in relief. Jason Lowey (3-1) suffered the loss in relief.
