SHARKS RALLY PAST PATRIOTS TO WIN 9-8

Camden, NJ – The Camden Riversharks (9-14, 33-60) rallied to defeat the Somerset Patriots (9-13, 55-37) 9-8 Saturday night from Campbell’s Field in front of 5,403 fans. The Riversharks overcame a seven run deficit by scoring two in the seventh and six in the eighth to stun the Patriots.

In the top of the first inning third baseman Corey Smith socked a RBI double to give Somerset an early 1-0 lead.

Somerset hit three home runs in the third inning to take a commanding 6-0 lead. Designated hitter Jake Fox slugged a solo homer (22) to deep left field as it was his first homer since June 26th. Center fielder Jorge Cortes hit a line drive three run homer (1) to right field and catcher James Skelton hammered a solo home run (1) to right field as well.

Catcher Raul Padron blooped a RBI single in the bottom of the third inning as Camden scored their first run making the contest 6-1.

In the top of the fifth inning second baseman Jonny Tucker brought home a run via a RBI sac fly to expand Somerset’s advantage to 7-1.

Right fielder Cory Aldridge pounded an opposite field home run (9) to right field to increase the score to 8-1 in favor of the Patriots.

The Riversharks plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as designated hitter Val Pascucci hit a RBI single and third baseman Dionys Cesar recorded a RBI sac fly to cut the deficit to 8-3.

Camden had an epic eighth inning as they would take their first and only lead of the evening which proved to be enough. Second baseman D’Angelo Jimenez roped a two RBI double and Cesar legged out an RBI infield single to trim the deficit to just 8-6. Shortstop Juan Martinez then ripped a three RBI double down the left field line which made the score 9-8 which would be the final.

Patrick Butler (1-0) earned the win in relief. Jon Hunton (1-5) blew the save and suffered the loss. Adrian Martin notched his 15th save.

The 2013 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Friday, August 2nd when the Patriots return home to take on the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at 7:05 p.m. The game features a Post-Game Fireworks Show presented by Cablevision Advertising Sales.
