Bridgeport, CT – The Somerset Patriots (10-13, 56-37) defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish (12-12, 35-59) 4-1 Tuesday evening from Harbor Yard in the series opener. Closer Jon Hunton tied a Patriots single season record for most saves in a season with 23. In 2007 R. D. Spiehs notched 23 saves as well.
In the top of the fifth inning Somerset took a 3-0 lead that they would not relinqush. Left fielder Aharon Eggleston recorded a RBI sacrifice fly and two additional runs scored on a throwing error by catcher Luis Rodriguez.
Right fielder Prentice Redman slugged a solo home run (7) to left field in the bottom of the seventh inning to make the score 3-1.
In the top of the ninth inning first baseman Jeff Baisley hammered a solo home run (5) to deep left field that made the contest 4-1 in favor of Somerset which would be the final.
Erik Arnesen (9-2) earned the win tossing eight brilliant innings scattering just one run on five hits. Mike Parisi (4-13) suffered the loss as he hurled seven strong innings allowing just one earned run. Hunton threw a scoreless final frame.
