BLUE CRABS SALVAGE SERIES WITH 2-1 WIN OVER PATRIOTS

Waldorf, MD – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (13-23, 50-55) defeated the Somerset Patriots (19-16, 65-40) 2-1 Sunday afternoon from Regency Furniture Stadium to salvage the final game of the three game weekend series.

In the bottom of the fifth inning right fielder Brian Barton hit a RBI single to give the Blue Crabs a 1-0 advantage.

Somerset third baseman Corey Smith blooped a RBI single in the top of the sixth inning to tie the contest at 1-1.

The Blue Crabs retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when first baseman Jose Salas laced a RBI double to make the score 2-1 which would be the final score.

Jordan Conley (1-0) earned the win in relief. Josh Lowey (10-7) was the tough luck loser as he hurled seven innings while allowing just two runs. Jim Ed Warden (27) registered a save as he tossed a perfect ninth inning.

The 2013 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue tomorrow when the Patriots return home to take on the Lancaster Barnstormers. There will be two seven inning games beginning at 5:05 p.m. The game features Star Wards Night and a chance for all fans 21 years and over to win $10,000 presented by Heineken Premium Light.
