Patriots Beat Sugar Land 6-2

815merrittBridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters 6-2 in front of 6,648 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday evening.

The Patriots took a 3-0 lead in the second on an RBI single by Joe Holden and a two run single by Jonny Tucker.

Somerset tacked on three more runs in the fourth after James Skelton came around to score on an error and Aharon Eggleston drove a two run double to center field for the 6-0 advantage.

Sugar Land got on the board in the eighth on a solo homerun to right by Eduardo Perez (8) to make the score 6-1.

A solo homerun by Travis Scott (8) in the ninth added one more for the Skeeters for the 6-2 final.

Somerset starter Roy Merritt (1-2) got the win after tossing five scoreless innings, while not allowing a hit. Sugar Land starter David Pauley (3-2) suffered the loss, allowing six runs on 10 hits in four innings pitched.

The 2013 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on Friday evening when they take on the Sugar Land Skeeters at 7:05 pm.
