Waldorf, MD – The Somerset Patriots (36-18, 82-42) crushed the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (21-34, 58-66) 11-3 Friday night in the series opener from Regency Furniture Stadium in front of a crowd of 6,399. The Patriots extended their winning streak to four games while the Blue Crabs dropped their fifth straight contest.

In the top of the first inning designated hitter Cory Aldridge smacked a RBI double and third baseman Corey Smith tallied a RBI sacrifice fly to give the Patriots an early 2-0 advantage.

Somerset added three more runs in the top of the second inning as second baseman Jonny Tucker slapped a two RBI triple and left fielder Aharon Eggleston registered a RBI triple to increase the lead to 5-0.

In the top of the third inning Smith launched a mammoth solo home run (18) to left field and right fielder Jorge Cortes poked a two run home run (4) off the right field foul pole as Somerset led comfortably 8-0.

Eggleston registered a two RBI single through the right side in the fifth inning as Somerset took a commanding 10-0 advantage.

Aldridge sliced a RBI single in the top of the seventh as the Patriots tacked on a run to make the score 11-0.

The Blue Crabs scored three runs in the eighth inning as shortstop Renny Osuna slugged a two run home run (6) and second baseman Jake Opitz drilled a solo home run (5) to make the score 11-3 which would be the final.

Erik Arnesen (13-2) earned the win as he hurled six shutout innings surrendering just five hits. Ian Marshall (11-7) suffered the loss lasting just three innings giving up eight runs and nine hits.
