Camden, NJ – The Camden Riversharks (8-18) defeated the Somerset Patriots (16-8) 7-5 Wednesday afternoon from Campbell’s Field. Somerset still leads the 2014 Turnpike Series 6-3.
In the bottom of the first inning third baseman Bryant Nelson smacked a RBI double to give Camden an early 1-0 advantage.
Shortstop Nate Spears evened the score at 1-1 in the top of the third inning as he laced a RBI single.
The Riversharks retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as they plated a pair to make the score 3-1. Center fielder Alex Hudak ripped a RBI triple and first baseman Bryan Pounds hit a RBI single.
Camden added three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to expand its lead to 6-1. Nelson tallied a RBI single while Hudak drove in a run via a RBI fielder’s choice. The final run of the frame scored on a fielding error by third baseman Corey Smith.
Right fielder Jorge Cortes sliced a RBI single to up the score to 7-1 in favor of Camden in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Somerset rallied for four runs in the eighth inning to cut the deficit to 7-5 which ultimately would be the final score. Smith and first baseman Robbie Widlansky each roped two RBI singles.
Scott Gorgen (2-2) earned the win tossing 7.1 innings while allowing four runs. Gary Moran (0-2) suffered the loss last five innings while surrendering six runs. Matt Gorgen notched the save (5) pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
