Bridgewater, NJ– Tonight the Somerset Patriots (41-22) host the Lancaster Barnstormers (36-27) for the first game of a four game midweek series from TD Bank Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Download today’s comprehensive game notes. This is the first of a seven game homestand that concludes the first half for the Patriots.
Starting Pitching Matchup
Righty Erik Arnesen (7-3, 4.08 ERA) toes the rubber for Somerset while fellow righty hurler Chris Schwinden (6-1, 3.10 ERA) takes the hill for the Stormers.
Somerset leads Long Island by 6.0 games in the first half Liberty Division race. Somerset went 6-4 against Long Island in the first half so if these two squads finished tied after 70 games then Somerset would hold the tie breaker because the Patriots won the first half head-to-head series. The magic number is 2 (combination of Patriots wins and/or Ducks losses).
The Patriots can clinch their first Division Title in four years tonight. Somerset must win AND have Long Island lose one of their two games against Bridgeport. Somerset can also clinch with a loss AND Bridgeport sweeping the Ducks in the doubleheader.
Best Half Ever…
The most wins in a single half by a Somerset Patriots team is 46 accomplished in the first half of 2013. This year’s squad must go 6-1 in its final seven games to break that record.
Getting Smitty With It
Corey Smith is in the midst of a 10 game hitting streak
The Patriots are 36-4 when they score four runs or more but only 5-18 when they score three runs or fewer.
Eggs Sunny Side Up
Aharon Eggleston hit just .177 in the month of May but is hitting .365 in the month of June.
Lucky Number Seven
The Patriots are 28-1 when they lead after seven innings
