Bridgewater, NJ – The Lancaster Barnstormers (12-9, 51-40) defeated the Somerset Patriots (12-10, 59-33) 11-3 Thursday evening from TD Bank Ballpark. Lancaster first baseman Gabe Jacobo went 5-for-5 with six RBI as he became the second Barnstormers player to ever hit for the cycle.
In the top of the first inning the Barnstormers scored five runs to take an early 5-0 advantage. A run scored on first baseman Brian Barden’s fielding error then Jacobo smacked a grand slam (3).
Lancaster plated a pair of runs in the top of the third inning to increase its lead to 7-0. Jacobo sliced a RBI double while left fielder Cole Garner was issued a bases loaded walk.
The Patriots scored three times in the bottom of the third inning to cut the deficit to 7-3. An error by Jacobo led to two runs while third baseman Corey Smith sliced a RBI single.
Second baseman Jaime Pedroza belted a home run (1) in the top of the fourth frame to up the Barnstormers advantage to 8-3.
Left fielder Cole Garner pounded a two run home run (20) to increase the lead to 10-3 for Lancaster in the top of the seventh inning.
Jacobo tallied a RBI triple in the road half of the eighth inning to make the contest 11-3.
Joe Gardner (3-1) earned the win totaling 6.1 innings while allowing no earned runs. Derell McCall (5-5) suffered the loss pitching four innings while allowing three earned runs.
