Bridgewater, NJ – Tonight the Somerset Patriots (19-11, 66-34) take on the Sugar Land Skeeters (17-12, 55-43) for the first game of a three game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from TD Bank Ballpark. Download today’s comprehensive game notes. There will be a postgame fireworks show after the game. The Patriots are 11-6 against the Skeeters this year.

Starting Pitching Matchup

Lefty Matt Maloney (7-5, 3.43 ERA) toes the rubber for Somerset while fellow southpaw Steve Hammond (8-6, 3.37 ERA) takes the hill for the Skeeters.

Pressley Hangs Up Spikes

Tonight Josh Pressley will sign a one day contract with the Patriots so he can retire as a member of the Red, White & Blue. Pressley suited up for Somerset from 2007-11 and was a five time all-star, two time champion, and won league MVP honors in 2008. He played for the Skeeters the last two years.

Damaso Espino has 45 hits this season yet 41 of them are singles

Somerset is 10-2 in its last 12 games and has established a new high-water mark of being 32 games above .500

Big Jon

Closer Jon Hunton leads the Atlantic League with 34 saves. That’s eight more than anyone else in the league. He has only blown two saves since June 1st. Hunton is four saves away from breaking the single season Patriots record for most saves in a year and Hunton is seven saves away from breaking the Atlantic League record for most saves in a year.

Power Surge

Brian Barden had two homers in his first 44 games but he has three homers in his last seven games.

Savvy Veteran

Daryle Ward has started 22 games and has totaled 17 RBI since signing with Somerset on July 18th.

Postseason Bound

The Somerset Patriots are the 2014 1st Half Liberty Division Champions! This is their 13th Half Title in franchise history as the Patriots are going to the playoffs for some serious September baseball!
