Central Islip, NY – The Somerset Patriots (25-18, 72-41) defeated the Long Island Ducks (20-23, 60-52) 8-3 Friday evening from Bethpage Ballpark. AUGUST22ndGRAPHIC

In the bottom of the first inning center fielder Lew Ford hit a RBI groundout to give the Flock a 1-0 advantage.

Right fielder Luis Montanez slugged a home run (13) in the top of the second inning to even the contest at 1-1.

Third baseman Brandon Harris sliced a go ahead RBI single to give Long Island a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning.

The Patriots scored six runs in the top of the fifth inning to grab a 7-2 lead. Third baseman Corey Smith and designated hitter Adam Donachie tallied RBI singles. Left fielder Ty Wright and center fielder recorded RBI groundouts while catcher Damaso Espino served a two RBI single.

Pitch Juan Rincon hurled a passed ball that led to a run as the Ducks cut the deficit to 7-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Donachie belted a RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to expand the Somerset lead to 8-3.

Matt Zielinski (9-7) earned the win tossing six innings while allowing two runs on five hits. Mitch Talbot (3-2) sustained the loss hurling four innings while surrendering six runs on seven hits.
