Patriots Power Past Revoultion 8-5

Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (32-26, 79-49) defeated the York Revolution (31-26, 72-55) 8-5 Saturday evening from TD Bank Ballpark. SEPT6GRAPHIC

In the top of the first inning first baseman Travis Garcia lined a RBI single to give York a 1-0 advantage.

The Patriots plated five runs in the home half of the first inning to take a 5-1 lead. Right fielder Luis Montanez drew a bases loaded walk, designated hitter Mike Wilson tallied a RBI sacrifice fly, and first baseman Daryle Ward cranked a three run home run (6).

Ward blasted his second home run (7) of the evening in the home half of the third inning to increase the lead to 6-1.

Somerset added a run in the bottom of the fourth when right fielder Justin Greene committed a fielding error as the Patriots upped the contest to 7-1.

York scored twice in the top of the fifth inning as Shortstop Wilson Valdez collected a RBI via a groundout and Garcia fisted a RBI single to cut the deficit to 7-3.

Pinch hitter Cory Harrilchak roped a RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 8-3.

Center fielder Sean Smith slugged a home run (8) in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 8-4

The Revolution scored again in the top of the eighth inning as second baseman Omar Luna poked a RBI single making the score 8-5 which would be the final.

David Harden (3-5) earned the win tossing four innings of relief work allowing three runs. Alain Quijano (10-9) endured the loss lasting four frames while surrendering seven runs. Jon Hunton notched his Atlantic League leading 45th save.
