Camden, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (35-28, 82-51) defeated the Camden Riversharks (23-40, 46-87) 3-2 Saturday evening from Campbell’s Field. The game was delayed one hour and eighteen minutes due to rain.
In the bottom of the first inning left fielder Brian Van Kirk registered a RBI sacrifice fly to give Camden a 1-0 advantage.
The Patriots plated a pair of runs in the top of the third inning to grab a 2-1 lead. Shortstop Edwin Maysonet ripped a RBI double while second baseman Jeff Dominguez tallied a RBI sacrifice fly.
Pinch runner Scott Kelly stole third base in the top of the ninth inning then came around to score on the errant throw by catcher Mike Albaladejo as Somerset took a 3-1 lead.
In the top of the ninth inning first baseman Jose Morales sliced a RBI single to make the contest 3-2 which would be the final.
Roy Merritt (1-0) earned the win tossing five innings while surrendering one run. Joe Testa (0-1) sustained the loss hurling three innings while allowing two runs. Jon Hunton notched his Atlantic League leading 47th save of the year.
