Waldorf, MD – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (36-30, 65-71) defeated the Somerset Patriots (37-29, 84-52) 7-3 Wednesday night from Regency Furniture Stadium. SEPT17thGRAPHIC

In the bottom of the second inning third baseman Angel Chavez and shortstop Bobby Stevens each sprayed RBI singles to give Southern Maryland a 2-0 advantage.

Second baseman Jeff Dominguez laced a two RBI single in the top of the third inning to even the contest at 2-2.

The Blue Crabs grabbed a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth frame as Stevens slapped a RBI single.

Southern Maryland scored four times in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 7-2 lead. Right fielder Cyle Hankerd pounded a RBI double, second baseman Jake Opitz sliced a two RBI double and left fielder Michael Schwartz tallied a RBI sacrifice fly.

Pitcher Justin Berg hurled a wild pitch that led to a Somerset run as the deficit was cut to 7-3 in the top of the eighth inning.

Jake Hale (7-3) earned the win tossing seven innings while only allowing two runs. Gary Moran (11-5) endured the loss hurling 5.2 innings while striking out a season-high nine batters.
