Blue Crabs Defeat Patriots 5-2

Waldorf, MD – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (37-30, 66-71) defeated the Somerset Patriots (37-30, 84-53) 5-2 in the rubber match of the series Thursday evening from Regency Furniture Stadium. SEPT18thGRAPHIC

In the bottom of the second inning center fielder Jermaine Mitchell ripped a two RBI double to give Southern Maryland a 2-0 advantage.

Right fielder Luis Montanez blasted a two run home run (17) in the top of the fourth frame to even the contest at 2-2. Audio of the round tripper.

The Blue Crabs scored three times in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 5-2 lead. Third baseman Angel Chavez sliced a RBI single, Salvador Sanchez hurled a wild pitch that led to a run and second baseman Junior Arrojo hit a RBI infield single.

Justin Berg (2-2) earned the win in relief. Sanchez (0-1) endured the loss in relief. Jorge Mraban notched his first save of the year.
