September 19th Game Notes; Bluefish @ Patriots

Bridgewater, NJ – Tonight the Somerset Patriots (37-30, 84-53) host the Bridgeport Bluefish (23-44, 45-92) for the first game of a three game weekend series. This is the final regular season series of the year. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from TD Bank Ballpark. Download today’s comprehensive game notes. The Patriots have already qualified for the postseason while Bridgeport has been eliminated. The last time Bridgeport made the playoffs was 2010. Somerset is 14-3 against the Bridgeport in 2014.

Starting Pitching Matchup

Lefty Roy Merritt (1-0, 2.25 ERA) toes the rubber for Somerset while righty hurler Tomo Ohka (6-12, 5.46 ERA) takes the hill for the Fish.

The Somerset Patriots are the 2014 1st Half & 2nd Half Liberty Division Champions! This is their 14th Half Title in franchise history as the Patriots are going to the playoffs for some serious September baseball! The Patriots have re-signed the reigning Atlantic League MVP Jake Fox. Last year in 96 games Fox hit .310 with 25 HRs and 82 RBI. The prolific slugger has 211 career minor league home runs. In two starts in 2014 Fox already has two multi-hit games.

Somerset will either play Lancaster or Sugar Land in round one. If the season ended today it’d  be Lancaster

Closer Jon Hunton leads the Atlantic League with 48 saves. That’s 20 more than anyone else in the league. Hunton has already set the Atlantic League single season saves record as he broke Mike Guilfoyle’s record of 40 done in 2003 with Bridgeport. Hunton has more saves than Bridgeport and Camden do overall wins.
