Jason Lowey Signed By Colorado Rockies

loweynewsBridgewater, N.J.- Somerset Patriots right-handed pitcher Jason Lowey, the reigning Atlantic League Reliever Of The Year, has been signed by the Colorado Rockies organization.

Lowey received the honor as the league’s top reliever after posting a 5-1 record with a 1.90 earned run average and 59 strikeouts against just 15 walks over 56.2 innings pitched. In addition, his 59 appearances were tied with closer Jon Hunton for the team lead.

The 29 year-old was just as strong in 2013 with the Patriots, earning Second-Team Atlantic League honors. That year, Lowey went 7-4 with a 1.76 ERA in 55 appearances. The Florida native also struck out 56 batters against 24 walks over 51 innings of work.

Lowey has previous experience with a Major League organization when he pitched in the Atlanta Braves system in 2010. After beginning the season with the River City Rascals of the Independent Frontier League, Lowey went 1-0 and tossed eight scoreless innings over eight appearances with High-A Myrtle Beach of the Carolina League. He returned to the Braves new High-A affiliate in 2011, Lynchburg, to record three saves with a 2.25 ERA in eight appearances.
