Eggleston’s Walk-Off Single Wins It For Somerset In 15 Innings

816fbBridgewater, NJ – Aharon Eggleston’s two-run walk off single in the 15th inning gave the Somerset Patriots (20-18, 58-50) a 6-5 victory over the York Revolution (21-16, 61-46) on Monday evening at TD Bank Ballpark.

Trailing 5-4 with two outs in the bottom of the 15th inning, Eggleston delivered a two-run base hit down the right field line to end the extra inning marathon. Audio of game winner courtesy of WCTC.

“It shows a lot about our team,” Eggleston said. “After they scored that run in the last inning, it would have been easy for us to just say let’s go out and get them tomorrow. We came back, battled back, and found a way to win.”

The Revolution had taken a 5-4 lead in the top of the 15th on a sacrifice fly by Bryan Pounds.

The Patriots broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI groundout by Bryan LaHair for a 4-3 advantage.

York answered in the top of the ninth inning with a run on an RBI single by Jared Mitchell to tie up the game.

The Patriots had an early start to the game as David Vidal hit his 20th home run of the season in the bottom of the first inning to give Somerset a 2-0 lead. Audio of the round tripper courtesy of WCTC. The lead was extended with a run in the second inning on an RBI single by Scott Kelly.

The Revolution tied up the game on a three-run home run by Travis Witherspoon (8) in the seventh inning.

Randy Boone (1-2) came in the game in the tenth inning and allowed a run in six innings pitched for the win.  Mike Click (4-3) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs on three hits in 0.2 innings pitched.

“That was the Randy Boone we know. He looked lively. He looked sharp and was getting a lot of weak contact out there,” Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie said. “He had a lot of easy innings there for the first four or so. You really can’t say enough about what he did out there tonight.”
