The Somerset Patriots (6-2) were defeated by the York Revolution (3-4) Friday night at People’sBank Park in the first of a three-game series.
The Patriots got the scoring started in the top of the first inning on an RBI single from Bryan LaHair. York responded immediately in the bottom half of the frame with five runs, all coming with two outs. Jared Mitchell’s two-run triple highlighted the five-run Revolution outburst.
Somerset trimmed the deficit to 5-2 in the top of the second on a Chris Grayson sacrifice fly. The Patriots later added two more runs in the top of the seventh on a run-scoring throwing error from Alonzo Harris and LaHair sacrifice fly, but the comeback ended there.
“We got one in the first, and yea they got one in the bottom, but we put up a bunch of zeroes the rest of the way,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. “I felt good about what Mitch and the relievers did out there. We also threatened at the plate a couple of times, but could not get the big hit we needed at the end of the game.”
Stephan Janas (1-1) earned the win, yielding two runs on five hits with four strikeouts in five innings of work. Mitch Atkins (1-1) took the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits with six strikeouts in five innings. Brad Allen (1) earned his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.
Aaron Laffey (1-0) takes on Logan Williamson (0-0) in Saturday’s ballgame against the Revolution. First pitch at People’sBank Park is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
