PROMOTION-A-PALOOZA: 2017 has featured three different Somerset Patriots earning a promotion to Major League clubs, tying a franchise record set in 2008: OF Chris Marrero (SFG), RHP Tyler Cloyd (SEA) and LHP Nik Turley (MIN). Marrero played in 37 games here in 2015, Turley appeared in 10 games (8 GS) in 2016 and Cloyd made three starts with the Patriots in 2017, earning his call-up just 27 days after his last appearance in Somerset. There have been 19 Patriots to reach the majors after playing in Somerset: most in the Atlantic League.

CONGRATS ARE IN ORDER: 10 Patriots have had their contracts purchased in 2017: eight by MLB organizations. LHPs Jeremy Bleich, Logan Darnell & Aaron Laffey along with RHPs Tyler Cloyd, Ryan Kelly, Vin Mazzaro, Mitch Atkins and outfielder Jerry Sands had their contracts’ purchased earlier this season. INF Olmo Rosario (Bravos de Leon, Mexican League) and RHP Scott McGregor (Taiwan Professional Baseball) also had their contracts’ purchased earlier this season.

MERRY CLINCH-MAS: Following the Somerset’s victory and Bridgeport’s loss on Wednesday night, the Patriots officially clinched the 2017 Liberty Division First Half Championship. The Patriots have now won an Atlantic League-record 18 half championships, including eight first half championships: most recently in ‘15 with a record-setting 50 wins.

RICK TEASLERGAARD: LHP Rick Teasley leads the Atlantic League in wins (7) and currently ranks third in ERA (2.55). The southpaw went 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA over 12 innings as a reliever to start the year (four games), compared to a 5-1 record with a 2.91 ERA over 51.2 innings as a starter (nine games).

K IS FOR KUBIAK: RHP David Kubiak currently ranks 2nd in the ALPB in strikeouts (71). He has made nine-straight starts after beginning the year as a reliever, striking out nine batters in a game three times, including at least five Ks in eight of the nine games. Additionally, his 3.38 ERA ranks 10th in the league.

KEEP ROLLIN’ ROLLIN’: Kyle Roller has reached base in 16 of his last 18 games (hits in 14-of-18). Over that stretch, Roller is 25-for-66 (.379) with seven home runs, 20 RBI, 20 runs scored & 13 walks. He also recently became the 2nd Patriot ever to record a cycle and the 5th to record eight RBI in a game (6/28).

SUMMER OF YOVAN: Yovan Gonzalez has reached base safely in 38 of the 44 games in which he has played this year, including hits in 22 of his last 28. Over those 28 games, Gonzalez is 33-103 (.320) with two home runs, 10 runs and 12 RB. He is six plate appearances (178, needs 184) short of qualifying among the league leaders in batting, but his .329 average would otherwise rank fourth.

PATCH ‘EM UP: Justin Pacchioli has reached base in each of his last 10 games and scored a run in each of his last five starts. He is 13 PA (171, needs 184) shy of qualifying, but both his .345 AVG & .444 OBP would otherwise lead the league.
