FIRST PLACE BEST PLACE: Somerset has held at least a share of first place for every day so far this season. The Patriots were in held at least a share of first place for 72 straight-days in the first half last year, with only three days tied.
inVINCEable: Somerset’s bullpen features a number of former big leaguers, but first-year Patriot Vince Molesky has impressed thus far. Molesky has allowed just three earned runs over 15.1 innings this season, good for a 1.76 ERA (3rd in ALPB). He has tossed 9.1 consecutive scoreless innings, over which he has faced five over the minimum and yielded five hits and one walk with eight strikeouts.
ANTONINI SHINES: Second-year Patriots southpaw Mike Antonini has not allowed an earned run over his first 11 innings on just two hits with 12 strikeouts.
RED-HOT A-ROD: Shortstop Alfredo Rodriguez saw his six-game hit streak end Friday, but has reached base in 11 of his last 13. Over that span, Rodriguez is 17-for-47 (.362) with three RBI, four doubles, five walks and nine runs. His .345 average ranks eighth in the league, while his .449 OBP ranks sixth. He has reached base safely in 16 of the 18 games in which he has played this season.
BORBON STREET: Outfielder Julio Borbon is 7-for-17 over his last four games with a home run, three RBI, three runs and three extra-base hits. This streak has his average back up to .290 on the year. The five-year big leaguer is fourth in the league in doubles (7), fourth in extra-base hits (11) and fifth in slugging (.565)
IT’S A WALK OFF!: Somerset enjoyed four walk-off wins over its first six games of the year and now has five walk-offs over 13 home games this season. The Patriots had 11 walk-off wins in the 2017 season.
NUMBAH ONE: Though Mike Fransoso recently saw a six-game hit streak come to an end, the UMaine grad still ranks amongst league leaders. He ranks sixth in average (.370), fourth in OBP (.453) and tied for ninth in runs (14).
CLOSE GAME MAGIC: Eight of Somerset’s first 12 wins have come by just one run. They are 8-1 in one-run games this season and were 20-21 last year.
DUDLEY DO-RIGHT: Aaron Dudley had his team-high 12-game on-base streak end Friday night, but still ranks 3rd on the team in batting (.333), which is also good for ninth in the league. The first-year Patriot also owns two of the five Somerset walk-off winners this season.
IT’S A TRAPP: Justin Trapp has reached base safely in 15 of the 16 games in which he has played this year, including each of his last six. Over this six-game stretch, the second-year Patriot has two runs, two doubles, two RBI, four walks and seven steals. He currently leads the team in RBI (11) and is tied for second in the league in stolen bases (8).
DUCK SEASON: The Somerset Patriots and Long Island Ducks have now played 350 regular season games between each other, with both teams winning exactly 175 games each. Somerset has taken three-of-five against their rivals this year.
