FIRST PLACE BEST PLACE: Somerset has at least shared first place every day this season and have been alone in first for 57-straight days. The Patriots held at least a share of first place for 72-straight days in the first half last year.
MAGIC NUMBER: Somerset’s magic number to win the first half is at five. That means any combination of Patriots wins and Long Island Ducks losses totaling five will clinch a first half championship. The magic number over the third-place New Britain Bees is also at five.
LOT OF BUZZ: The Patriots bounced back after being shut out on Tuesday night to record a shutout of their own, beating the Bees 5-0. The Bees are now 13-4 in their last 17 games, and own the season series over the Patriots 5-4.
STARTING OFF RIGHT: Somerset starting pitchers have tossed at least five IP and have allowed no more than three ER in 22 of the last 23 games. Since June 3rd, starters are 10-4 with a 2.41 ERA (38 ER in 142.0 IP) and a 137/37 K/BB ratio
HOT ROD: Alfredo Rodriguez is currently riding a nine-game hit streak, over which he is batting .429 (15-35) with two doubles, four runs and four RBI to bring his average up to .312. ME AND JULIO: OF Julio Borbon has reached base safely in 24 of his last 26 games, and has three HR, 19 RBI, 10 SB and 24 runs over his last 30 games. He’s hit safely in 32 of his last 38 games, is second in the league in doubles (15), ranks third in extra-base hits (22), and third in runs (36).
AGE JUST A NUMBER: Endy Chavez has a hit in 10 of his last 12 games, including eight RBI over his last seven. The 40-year old is batting .292 (14-for 48) over this stretch with a home run, eight runs scored and eight RBI.

INSANE DUANE: LHP Duane Below once again turned in a dazzling performance in Tuesday’s 1-0 loss against the Bees. With 6.2 additional scoreless innings, he has allowed just three runs over his last 18.2 IP (1.45 ERA) and ranks third in the league in BB/9 (1.61), and fifth in ERA (3.04).
