Lancaster, PA – The Somerset Patriots (2-4) came back from deficits of four runs in the 8th inning and two runs in the 9th inning to defeat the Lancaster Barnstormers (3-3) 7-6 in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night in the middle game of this three game midweek series.

In the top of the ninth with the Patriots trailing 6-4, center fielder Johnny Drennen hit a two-run home run to tie the game and with two outs first baseman Freddy Sandoval hit an RBI single down the left field line to plate pinch runner Dan DeGeorge as the Patriots took a 7-6 lead they would not relinquish.

Relief pitcher Travis Bowyer would put the tying run on third base with two outs and then closer Josh Rupe struck out Fehlendt Lentini on three pitches to notch his first save of the 2012 season and preserve the win.

Barnstormers starter J.D. Durbin was flawless as he did not allow a base hit until there were two outs in the 7th inning. The Barnstormers bullpen would implode and give up seven runs in 2.1 innings of work.

The Barnstormers quickly got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning. Each of the first three batters recorded base hits. Center fielder Adam Godwin singled to right, left fielder Blake Gailen had a bunt single down the third base line, and first baseman Tommy Everidge had an infield single to shortstop to drive in Godwin as the Barnstormers took a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the 2nd inning second baseman Jaime Pedroza would connect on a two-run home run (2) to deep right center field to expand the lead to 3-0.

Pedroza picked up his third RBI of the game in the 4th frame when he hit a sacrifice fly to drive in designated hitter Ryan Harvey.

In the 8th inning the Patriots would storm back sending eight batters to the plate scoring four runs to tie the game. With two outs, second baseman Freddie Bynum walked as did left fielder Deangelo Mack. Sandoval reached on an infield single. Designated hitter Jesse Hoorelbeke would draw a bases loaded walk as the Patriots scored their first run of the game to make the score 4-1. The ensuing batter, right fielder Aaron Mathews, hit a bases clearing three-run, two-strike, double to tie the game at 4-4.

The Barnstormers would respond in the bottom of the 8th inning scoring off relief pitcher Chase Wright with two outs. Godwin had an RBI single and Gailen had an RBI double to make the score 6-4.

The Patriots would rally in the ninth and hold on to win to avoid starting the season 1-5 for the third time in as many years.
