Somerset Patriots outfielder Johnny Drennen has had a remarkable 72 hour stretch to catapult the Patriots to three straight wins. The left handed slugger has belted three home runs in the last three games, each dinger coming in the 8th inning or later in a crucial situation.
On Sunday, www.patriotsbaseball.com will profile Johnny Drennen but for now let’s look back at the past three days for the 25 year old budding star.
Wednesday, May 2nd: With the Patriots trailing 6-4 to the Lancaster Barnstormers in the top of the 9th inning, Drennen blasted a two-run home run to deep right center field at Clipper Magazine Stadium to tie the contest up at 6-6. The Patriots would go on to win 7-6.
Thursday, May 3rd: With the Patriots tied 2-2 to the Lancaster Barnstormers in the top of the 10th inning, Drennen hammered a solo home run to deep right center field at Clipper Magazine Stadium to break the tie and give the Patriots a 3-2 edge which they would not relinquish.
Friday, May 4th: With the Patriots trailing 2-1 to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in the bottom of the 8th inning, Drennen crushed a two-run home run to right field at TD Bank Ballpark to propel the Patriots to a 3-2 lead which they would preserve in the top of the 9th inning. Here is the audio clip of Drennen’s majestic blast courtesy of Patriots play-by-play broadcaster Justin Antweil and 1450 AM WCTC.
The Patriots, once 1-4 and in the cellar of the Freedom Division, have rattled off three straight dramatic wins to pull even at .500 and now have a share of first place.
What an epic three day stretch for Johnny Drennen!
