May 16th Game Notes; Bluefish @ Patriots

Custom Text

Bridgewater, NJ – Today the Somerset Patriots (10-8) face the Bridgeport Bluefish (12-6) at 11:05am from TD Bank Ballpark in the second game of this three game midweek series.

The Patriots won the opener last night 7-2 behind seven beautiful innings from starting pitcher Roy Merritt. Merritt tossed seven shutout frames, walking no batters and striking out five men while just surrendering two hits. Merritt made a pitching adjustment with pitching coach Brett Jodie during his side session a couple of days ago by moving his hands closer to his chest and it paid dividends. Left fielder Aaron Mathews had three hits and three RBI.

Paul Phillips is looking to remain unbeaten as he makes his fourth start of the year

Somerset Patriots third baseman Jeff Nettles is currently on an eight game hitting streak. He has multi-hit games in each of his last four contests. During the streak he is 12-for-26 at the plate with nine RBI.
