May 25th Game Notes; Riversharks @ Patriots

Bridgewater, NJ – Tonight the Somerset Patriots (13-13) host the Camden Riversharks (12-14) at 7:05pm from TD Bank Ballpark. The Patriots and Riversharks will meet six consecutive times this week. The two squads split a mini two game series in Camden earlier this week as the Patriots won Tuesday 8-0 while the Camden bested Somerset 5-4 Wednesday. Yesterday the Patriots lost 4-3 snapping their seven game home winning streak. This is the second game of a four game Memorial Day Weekend series.

Lousy Late…

The Patriots have squandered three run leads in the seventh inning or later in each of the last two days. The bullpen woes continue as the bullpen ERA (5.96) is over 2.5 runs higher than the starters ERA (3.32). The bullpen has given up 14 of the team’s 22 home runs.

Who’s Hot…

Patriots second baseman Freddie Bynum is currently on a 14 game hitting streak in which he has eight multi-hit games over that span. Patriots utility player Freddy Sandoval has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games.

Tonight’s starting pitching matchup features righty Justin Cassel for the Patriots against fellow righty Kevin Reese for the Riversharks.

Justin Cassel is the younger brother of Kansas City Chiefs starting quarterback Matt Cassel

Kevin Reese was a member of the 2011 Patriots team and was also on the Patriots this year in spring training but was released the day before the season opener on April 26th. Last year with Somerset, Reese compiled a 3-3 record while posting a 5.84 ERA. He appeared in 30 games while making 9 starts.
