June 6th Game Notes; Barnstormers @ Patriots

Bridgewater, NJ – Tonight the Somerset Patriots (16-22) play the Lancaster Barnstormers (22-16) at 7:05 p.m. from TD Bank Ballpark in the second game of this pivotal three game midweek series. This is the final series between these two Freedom Division foes in the first half. The Barnstormers have won six of the first eight meetings. The Barnstormers bullpen threw four hitless innings to preserve last night’s 3-1 win.

Bullpen Stronger

Since the calendar turned to June, the Somerset Patriots bullpen has tossed 15.0 innings and allowed just one run. Players have found their niche in the ‘pen.

Holden Returns

Yesterday the Somerset Patriots signed outfielder Joe Holden after they released reliever Anthony Claggett. Holden spent the last two years with the Patriots. Last year he hit .272 and stole 31 bases. He’s a great clubhouse presence as well.

Starting Pitching Matchup

Tonight will be a rematch of last Thursday’s pitching matchup when southpaw Roy Merritt squared off against Mark Brackman at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Each pitched fewer than four innings in that contest and received a no decision.
