Sugar Land, TX – The Somerset Patriots (22-24) won the series finale of over the Sugar Land Skeeters (18-27) by a score of 9-4 from rainy Constellation Field. The Patriots won five of the six games in this extended wrap around series featuring these Freedom Division foes. The Patriots won nine of the 10 meetings in the first half against the Skeeters outscoring them 57 to 25.

In the top of the second inning the Patriots jumped out to a 2-0 lead. First baseman Freddy Sandoval had an RBI single and left fielder Johnny Drennen had a RBI sacrifice fly.

The Patriots tacked on four more runs in the third frame. Second baseman Freddie Bynum hit an RBI triple, third baseman Jeff Nettles hit an RBI single and shortstop Yunesky Sanchez blasted a two-run opposite field homer (1) to right field as the Patriots took a commanding 6-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third inning the Skeeters responded with three runs of their own to cut the deficit in half. First baseman Josh Pressley and catcher Octavio Martinez each recorded RBI singles while third baseman Ofilio Castro notched an RBI double making the score 6-3.

The Patriots answered with two more runs in the top of the fourth as Nettles laced a two RBI double down the left field line expanding the Patriots lead to 8-3.

The Skeeters scratched across one run in the home half of the fourth inning on center fielder Bubba Bell’s RBI triple to make the score 8-4.

In the top of the ninth inning Jesse Hoorelbeke clubbed a deep home run (10) to left field to give the Patriots a 9-4 lead which would be the final.

Patriots’ righty hurler Paul Phillips earned his Atlantic League leading sixth win of the season as he tossed 6.1 innings while striking out five batters and allowed just three earned runs. Ryan Ketchner suffered his second loss of the season, both coming in this series.
