Bridgeport, CT – The Somerset Patriots (27-29) salvaged the final game of the three game weekend series with a 11-4 win over the Bridgeport Bluefish (24-32) on Sunday afternoon at Harbor Yard. Patriots’ starter Paul Phillips recorded his Atlantic League leading eighth win of the season.

In the top of the second inning the Patriots scored first as second baseman Freddy Sandoval smacked a solo home run (2) deep down the right field line to put the Patriots in front 1-0.

In the top of the third inning the Patriots added another run on a RBI sacrifice fly by third baseman Jeff Nettles to expand the lead to 2-0.

In the bottom of the third inning the Bluefish cut the two run deficit in half as shortstop Eddie Rogers laced a RBI single up the middle to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Patriots.

In the top of the fourth inning the Patriots scratched across another run as right fielder Joe Holden tallied a RBI infield single as the Patriots took a 3-1 lead.

In the top of the fifth inning the Patriots broke open the game by plating eight runs and taking a commanding 11-1 lead. The Patriots sent 14 batters to the plate in that fifth frame. Left fielder Aaron Mathews recorded a RBI via a sacrifice fly. Catcher Adam Donachie, first baseman Lou Santangelo and Holden each registered RBI singles. Center fielder Jonny Tucker and shortstop Freddie Bynum each were hit by pitches with the bases loaded. Nettles and Sandoval each walked with the bases loaded.

In the bottom of the fifth inning the Bluefish scored on a RBI single by first baseman Brock Peterson making the score 11-2.

In the bottom of the seventh inning the Bluefish would add two more runs as Peterson and third baseman Luis Lopez would each walk with the bases loaded but the Patriots still led by a touchdown at 11-4.

Phillips tossed 6.2 innings and struck out four batters while allowing just four runs in the win. Raymar Diaz suffered his seventh loss of the season as he hurled 4.1 innings and allowed five runs.
