July 1st Game Notes; Bluefish @ Patriots

Bridgewater, NJ – Tonight the Somerset Patriots (29-33) face the Bridgeport Bluefish (27-35) at 6:05 p.m. from the jewel of the Atlantic League that is TD Bank Ballpark. These two flagship franchises will battle for the final time in this four game weekend series. Patriots won Thursday 4-2. The Bluefish scored seven runs in the seventh inning to propel them to a 10-4 victory Friday night. The Btuefish scored four runs in the final three innings to hang on to a 5-1 victory last night.

Doug Arguello pitched a gem despite the loss last night. He only walked one batter and struck out a season-high 10 batters in seven quality innings of work. Audio clip of Arugello’s 10th strikeout courtesy of WCTC.

Eliminated But Still Important

The Patriots have been mathematically eliminated from winning the first half Freedom Division title but these games are still vital. Overall records are important if a wild card were to come into play and be a factor.

Need Offense

The Patriots have scored four runs or fewer in 9 of their last 10 games. They are missing team MVP Jesse Hoorelbeke. He is sidelined on the disabled list with a lower back injury. Hoorelbeke is hitting .322, 11 HRs, and 27 RBI.

Patriots’ manager Sparky Lyle is 11 wins away from 1,000 managerial wins in his 15 year Atlantic League career. Patriots third baseman Jeff Nettles is 16 hits away from 1,000 hits in his nine year Atlantic League career.

Fireworks Night

Stay in your seats after the final out as the Patriots will have a fireworks show for fans of all ages to enjoy. This is the final home game of the first half of 2012.
