Waldorf, MD – The Somerset Patriots (35-35) defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (30-40) 5-2 Sunday afternoon from Regency Furniture Stadium to complete the four game weekend sweep. The Patriots won eight of the ten meetings in the first half against the Blue Crabs. Somerset improves to .500 for the first time since May 28th when they were 15-15.

In the top of the first inning designated hitter Jeff Nettles clubbed a two run home run (7) to deep left center field to put the Patriots on the scoreboard first with a 2-0 lead.

The Blue Crabs responded with one run in the home half of the first as second baseman Casey Benjamin hit a RBI single to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.

In the top of the second inning first baseman Yusuf Carter smashed a solo home run (8) to left field to give the Patriots a 3-1 advantage.

The Patriots added another run in the third inning as left fielder Aaron Mathews laced a RBI single put the Patriots in front 4-1.

Catcher Adam Donachie blasted his first home run of the season in the top of the fourth frame making the score 5-1.

Blue Crabs catcher Christian Lopez hit a home run (2) to left field in the ninth to make the score 5-2 which would be the final.

Sean Green earned his first win as a member of the Somerset Patriots. Hunter Jones suffered his third loss of the season. Derell McCall notched his second save of the season.
