July 13th Game Notes; Riversharks @ Patriots

Bridgewater, NJ – Tonight the Somerset Patriots (35-35) host the Camden Riversharks (34-35) at 7:05 p.m. in the first game of this three game weekend series at TD Bank Ballpark. Tonight is the official start of the second half of the 2012 campaign as all eight Atlantic League teams are in action.

Broadcasters Ian Eagle and Bruce Beck will throw out the first pitch tonight at the Patriots game to kick off the second half of the season

.500 Mark

The Patriots are .500 (35-35) for the first time since May 28th when they were 15-15. This is a squad that is peaking at the right time winning four in a row and six of their last eight games to close out the first half.

1,000 Watch

Patriots’ manager Sparky Lyle is 5 wins away from 1,000 managerial wins in his 15 year Atlantic League career. Third baseman Jeff Nettles is 12 hits away from 1,000 hits in his nine year Atlantic League career.

Scoring First Is Key

Somerset is 24-13 when they score first yet they are only 11-22 when the opponent scores first.

Fireworks Night

Immediately after the game there will be a free fireworks display for all the fans to enjoy

Bruce Beck and Ian Eagle’s Sports Broadcasting Camp

Bruce Beck and Ian Eagle will be bringing their campers to the jewel of the Atlantic League for tonight’s contest. These aspiring broadcasters will do a mock play-by-play broadcast from the stands and two lucky campers will join Patriots play-by-play voice Justin Antweil in the fifth inning on WCTC. Bruce and Ian are longtime friends of the Somerset Patriots and are two iconic sportscasters.

Starting Pitching Matchup

Lefty Doug Arguello toes the rubber for the Patriots while fellow southpaw hurler Keith Weiser takes the hill for the Riversharks. Arguello has the sixth best ERA in the Atlantic League.
