Bridgewater, NJ- The Five-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots have announced that right-handed reliever Mike Solbach has had his contract purchased by the Colorado Rockies organization. He will report to Double-A Tulsa.
Solbach had a 2.48 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 32.2 innings pitched in 21 games for Somerset this season. He was selected to the 2012 Atlantic League All-Star Game for the Freedom Division earlier this week and pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.
“We are excited for Mike. He put in the hard work to prove himself at a high level to get signed by the Rockies. We wish him the best of luck and hope to see him make his way up to the Majors someday,” said Patrick McVerry, President/General Manager of the Somerset Patriots Baseball Club.
Solbach has spent his entire career in the New York Yankees organization prior to signing with the Patriots.
He was 6-4 with a 3.12 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 69.1 innings pitched in 28 games started for Tampa last season.
Solbach has a minor league career 3.56 ERA and 191 strikeouts in 214.2 innings pitched in 87 games.
In other team news, the Patriots have signed right-handed pitcher Jon Kibler. Kibler has experience in the Detroit Tigers organization, reaching Double-A in 2009 and 2010.
Kibler has a career minor league record of 38-38 with a 4.05 ERA and 421 strikeouts in 626.1 innings pitched in 108 games.
He began the 2012 season with the New Jersey Jackals of the Can-Am League.
The Patriots have also placed right-handed pitcher Tobi Stoner on the inactive list due to a broken finger suffered during the All-Star Break.
