Central Islip, NY – The Long Island Ducks (2-2, 41-32) defeated the Somerset Patriots (1-3, 36-38) 7-4 Monday night from Bethpage Ballpark in the first game of this four game midweek series. The Ducks have now won nine of the first 11 meetings against the Patriots this season.

In the bottom of the first inning Ducks first baseman Brandon Sing belted a RBI double to give the Ducks an early 1-0 advantage.

The Patriots tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth frame as catcher Yusuf Carter collected a RBI on a fielder’s choice.

Somerset took a 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning as first baseman Jake Fox smashed a solo home run (1) to left field and shortstop Dan DeGeorge lined a RBI single to right field.

In the ensuing half inning the Ducks tied the game at 3-3 as center fielder Reid Gorecki collected a RBI on a fielder’s choice and designated hitter Timo Perez laced a RBI single.

The Patriots retook the lead in the seventh as designated hitter Jesse Hoorelbeke sliced a single into center field to put the Patriots on top 4-3.

In the bottom of the seventh inning the Ducks took a commanding 7-4 lead which would be the final. Right fielder James McOwen hit a RBI single, shortstop Dan Lyons socked a two run triple and Gorecki added another run on a RBI sacrifice fly.

Connor Graham earned his second win of the season while Justin Cassel suffered his sixth loss of the 2012 campaign. Closer Jon Hunton notched his fifth save of the year.
